The Secret To Being An Early Bird

Some people are blessed with the ability to wake up at a specific time every day no matter how much sleep they get (my grandmother for example has been waking up at 4:00 AM every day for 40 years!) Sometimes your internal clock is simply not set to wake up at a certain time. In this case, it might need to rely on some other external assistance.

The easiest option is setting an alarm clock to wake you up. Make sure it is an annoying ringtone and set it across the room so you actually have to get out of bed to shut it off. Physically getting up to do this will help you fight the urge to hit the snooze button and sink back into bed. You’re already up, so why not stay up.

Another trick to use in addition to the alarm is setting multiple alarms to wake you up in the morning. I typically set an alarm for 5:50 AM, 6:00 AM, 6:05 AM and so on in 5 minute intervals until the time I actually have to get up. By doing this, it is a constant thorn at my side every time I try to snooze off again.

Lastly, you can simply ask one of your friends to call you or text you to wake up. My mom sometimes does this to me to get me up in the morning. It really helps!

Morning Routine

Now for the juicy part. Getting that morning routine down to a science will help you save so much time in the morning because you will not be stumbling around trying to get 101 things done. So how exactly do you make a morning routine? It is actually not as complicated as it sounds, trust me. First, you need to figure out what time you need to leave the house and work backwards from there.

For example. Say your job starts at 8:00 AM.

Calculate how much time you need to drive from home to work, let’s say this is 20 minutes. You’ll want to give yourself a few extra minutes of leeway so let’s say you have to be out of the house by 7:30.

Before you leave the house, you need to take a shower, eat breakfast, get dressed and hair and makeup. So your morning routine might look a little like this:

  • 6:00 AM - Wake up
  • 6:05 AM - Check Social Media
  • 6:10 AM - Actually get up
  • 6:15 AM - Brush teeth
  • 6:20 AM - Shower
  • 6:30 AM - Get Dressed
  • 6:40 AM - Hair and Makeup
  • 7:10 AM - Eat Breakfast
  • 7:30 AM - Leave the House
  • 8:00 AM - Arrive on time!

YOU CAN make your morning schedule as detailed as you want, depending on what you have to do in the morning. The goal is to practice the routine so many times that you do it naturally. It becomes a habit drilled into your subconscious mind. Sticking to your morning routine will help your mornings to run smoothly.

FOLLOW these steps and you’ll be waking up early enough to see sunrise in no time!
