REVIEW: CoverFX Clear Cover Invisible Sunscreen Broad Spectrum 30 SPF

This is the Cover FX Clear Cover Invisible Sunscreen Broad Spectrum 30 SPF. It retails on Sephora for $58.00 CAD. Its a clear silicone SPF that is perfect for layering under makeup and gives your skin a smooth finish.

Packaging

As I always say, I am a stickler for packaging. Air tight bottles are some of my favourite types of packaging because it helps to maintain the integrity of the product. No air or bacteria contaminates the product. The only thing about this type of bottle is that it makes the product more bulky than it needs to be, and gives you the illusion that you’re getting more product for you money. It has a pretty high price tag, but I can say that it lasts for quite some time. I purchased this in June, and with consistent use (minus the month of July since I used a different SPF on my trip to Africa), I still have a little over half of the product left. And I apply SPF heavily, but a use a body SPF for my neck and décolletage.

With that being said, I can’t stand the packaging of this product. The pump simply doesn’t work, which is probably why I have so much left because I can’t get any of the product out. It could be that this was just a faulty one but its still incredibly annoying. I literally have to pump 20 times into the palm of my hand for anything to come out.

The Product

Minus the packaging detractor, the Clear Cover Invisible Sunscreen itself is very nice on the skin. I haven’t noticed a distinct scent from the product, but it does have a faint cosmetic smell, no added fragrances. Of course it is clear so I don’t get any discolouration on my brown skin which is a plus (believe me). When you first put it on, it does feel a little heavy. It is silicone base so it’s mean’t to create a barrier over the skin. When you’re applying makeup over this, it is great because it already smooths out your skin texture, leaving a velvet finish to the skin. With this, you’ll need to follow up with a good skin routine at the end of the day to make sure you’re taking the SPF off completely.

When looking for a good SPF, pay extra attention to the labels since they all are intended for different use. I won’t go into too much detail here, but essentially this one is labeled as Broad Spectrum which is one of the best labels an SPF can have. The amount of SPF is not the major determination of how much coverage you’re getting, its the measure of UVA and UVB protection. If you’re not to aware of the specifics between the two, just knowing that “Broad Spectrum” is on the label ensure you that you are getting sufficient protection.

My Experience

If you have acne prone skin like myself, you’ll understand how truly important this is. Even with using this on a daily basis, I have not experienced any irritation from the Clear Cover which is a plus because my skin is sensitive to everything.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I enjoyed using the product. Clear SPF is my favourite, I had no irritations, no breakout because of this. It applied very nicely on the skin and left my face looking smooth. But it did feel heavy on the face. While I do enjoy the Clear Cover for what it does, I did find the formula a bit heavy for my oily-combination skin. I have other’s like the Murad Invidiblur that is the same clear colour, with a lighter texture so while this product was nice, I won’t be purchasing it again.
