REVIEW: Some By Mi AHA-BHA-PHA 30 Days Miracle (Cleanser, Toner & Serum)

Instagram is the mega-hub for skincare product advertisements that promise amazing results. One Ad that kept coming up was the AHA BHA PHA 30 Day Miracle line from Some By Mi. It claims to completely transform your skin in just 30 days. From acne, to oiliness and overall smoothness, this treatment is supposed to help improve your skin. So… I bought it of course and have been using it for the past 5 weeks. I expected it to take a while to arrive since it was shipping from overseas, but came pretty quickly arriving in a little over a week. Did it work? Lets find out!

STEP ONE: CLEANSE

This is the AHA BHA PHA 30 Day Miracle Cleansing Bar from Some By Mi. It retails on the StyleKorean website for $18.72 USD.

The bar, as well has the other products in the line, have a distinct almost tea-tree oil, medicinal scent. But it’s in no way too strong or overpowering. I have recently enjoyed cleansers that don’t foam up because they tend to dry out the skin. This cleansing bar has a soft, no suds lather and applies really silky on the skin.

You’re supposed to really massage the skin using the cleanser so its like giving yourself a nice facial every-time you use it. The bar is filled with natural oils so it melts in your hands. My face felt clean but not squeaky clean which is how I like it. I used it morning and night. Now I am not a big “bar cleanser” person, especially because I don’t like the idea of storing them open to the elements so I put mine in a paper bag. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed this one.

STEP TWO: TONE

This is the AHA BHA PHA 30 Day Miracle Toner from Some By Mi. It retails on the StyleKorean website for $24.60 USD.

The toner is what first caught my eyes. It is light weight and doesn’t irritate the skin. My skin immediately feels calm after using this product. I don’t find it very moisturizing but its just water so I wouldn’t expect it to be. I was a bit weary about the exfoliation aspect, using chemical exfoliators everyday, but didn’t feel any irritation and peeling using this. Would definitely recommend even just picking up this one alone.

STEP THREE: MOISTURIZE

This is the AHA BHA PHA 30 Day Miracle Serum by Some By Mi. It retails on the StyleKorean website for $41.60 USD.

The serum is a oil-water hybrid so the instructions say to shake the bottle well before use. My skin felt very smooth after using this but I did not find it very moisturizing. After a few days of using this, the oiliness on my forehead increased, so I reached for a Hyaluronic Acid to balance out the oil production. I felt as though this just made my oiliness worse and didn’t really do much to hydrate my skin, so I won’t be purchasing this one again.

Update! 11.23.2018

Going forward, I ended up using an aloe gel to give me the extra hydration my skin needed. Here’s my favourite one from Nature Republic Aloe Vera Gel. The two together give me the perfect consistency for my skin so I have added it back into my routine.

MY EXPERIENCE

Here is what we started with. My skin broke out a lot after using another skin care line. My skin was red, splotchy and sore. I had stopped using the product a week prior and it was finally beginning to heal. When I got the Miracle treatment in the mail, I was so excited to get to work.

WEEK ONE

In just one week, my skin was almost completely healed. The redness, the breakouts everything pretty much subsided. My skin was smooth, soft, oil controlled - you name it! Needless to say, we were off to a great start.

WEEK TWO

The second week my skin was still really smooth. I did get one or two breakouts but I was very surprised not to experience the “purging period” of when I try new products. I’ve talked about how your menstrual cycle effects your skin and acne so I was okay with getting a few breakouts. I popped out a pimple patch and started at those bad boys right away.

Since the beginning of my “treatment” I did not use anything on my skin, but that night I was in dire need of a facial. So I did a mini facial with my Dr. Brandt’s Oxygen Mask and Aztec Bentonite Clay.

WEEK THREE

I did find that my skin started getting oilier than usual in the T Zone, and as you can see, pretty normal skin on my cheeks. I started adding the Hyaluronic acid into my regimen to combat this. My skin was clearing again. Almost all of the acne that had begun were flattened. But because my period was right around the corner, I prepared myself for what would happen next.

WEEK FOUR

As predicted, week four brought me more break outs and redness. This was just a few days before my period and my skin was breaking out as if it was purging. You’ll see two huge sores on my right cheek and a whitehead between my brows. I also started getting tiny spots near my eyes and over my forehead. The I noticed a few pimples on my chin.

WEEK FIVE

This is photo was taken the day of my period and you’ll see that almost immediately, most of the acne had subsided.

POST TREATMENT

Looking from the last photo above, I’d say this 30 Days Miracle did lighten some of the darker, more prominent hyper-pigmentation marks I have on my skin. The completion looks a light brighter and feels smoother as well.

Overall, I really enjoyed the line itself. Do I think their 30 day miracle claims are a bit outlandish… a bit, yes. My skin texture and health has definitely improved but I still broke out my skin was still oily, and the pores around my nose actually got a bit larger from all of the oil on my skin. I’m going to try this for another week using just the cleanser and the toner without the oil and update what happens with that. I recommend trying the line, but maybe just not the serum.
