REVIEW: RNW Care Korean Skincare Collection
I have always been a lover of KBeauty, so when a Korean Skincare brand called RNW, a new Kbeauty brand just launching in Canada, reached out to me try some of their products, I was super excited. They sent me 6 products from their line to try and today I am sharing my thoughts on the products. You can find these products at Yesstyle.com which is where I find a lot of my Korean Skincare.
About My Skin
I have a dark skin complexion and a combination-acne skin type that is prone to hyper-pigmentation.
First, this is the RNW DER. CLEAR Purifying Cleansing Oil. It retails on the Yesstyle website for $46.35 CAD and comes with 200ml of product. It is supposed to be a really light cleansing oil with a base of grape-seed oil, that emulsifies when it comes in contact with water and it is supposed to gently remove all the makeup and debris from your skin. The cleanser has a light fragrance, almost resembling a lemon/lime citrus scent. You guys know my thoughts about fragrance, but this one is very subtle and I didn't find it irritating at all.
The cleanser is very light when applied which reminds me of my favourite oil cleanser. Very comparable. It also lathers to a very milky consistency and rinses off without any residue. My combination-acne prone skin finds that particularly pleasing. I found it really helpful to use this oil in the shower since I could get to my neck and my chest makeup as well and rinse it all away rather than getting water on my vanity counter attempting to wash my neck. I also found it helpful to use a micro-fiber towel to wipe the oil away as well as get in the hairline. It left my skin feeling clean but not stripped.
The next two products are intended to be used together. This is the RNW Hyal Treatment Toner and Emulsion. The DER. MOIST Hyal Treatment Toner retails for $32.64 CAD and comes with 125ml of product. The DER. MOIST Hyal Treatment Emulsion retails for $34.35 CAD and also comes with 125ml of product. They are supposed to be super hydrating to your skin and what is really cool about them is that they actually feature 5 different types of hyaluronic acid. They help to minimize hyperpigmentation, protect the skin from environmental stressors. They have a very milky texture which is something I have never tried before.
I had never actually used a milky toner before, and after a long harsh Canadian winter, my skin was in need of some good hydration. The key to applying any of these products to make sure that your skin is damp. I would apply this right after cleansing, without pat drying my face. If I was using a sheet mask, the company advises to apply the toner after the sheetmask. It soaked in very nicely to my skin and left it feeling plump.
As for the emulsion, I always felt as though my routine was missing some type of gel-like cream between the serum and your moisturizer. This is exactly what I have always been describing. A light weight hydrator that is perfect for combination-oily skin because it doesn’t feel greasy or heavy yet still gives you everything you need. This is supposed to be applied after your lighter consistency serums.
The next is the RNW DER. CONCENTRATE Niacinamide Plus. It retails on the Yesstyle website for $41.85 CAD and comes with 30ml of product. It is one of my favourite ingredients because it does so much for the skin. Not only does it help with acne and inflammation, but it also helps to restore and protect the skin's natural barrier. It calms the skin, improves pores, tones, and prevents discolouration. Lastly, it has a brightening effect so perfect for anyone who suffers from dark spots.
The serum was very liquid compared to the one from The Ordinary, which for me tends to suds up when used. I did still find it a little sticky if I pat it into my skin but it felt very smooth and the stickiness went away once it soaked in. I used this mostly in the morning. When I tried these products, I was on the cusp of my period so I started experiencing a few breakouts. I have dark skin that is very prone to hyper-pigmentation, but what was most interesting about using this product, is that any new pimple I was getting as a result of hormonal acne did not leave any pigmentation whatsoever.
The next product is one that I am most excited about. This is the RNW DER. CONCENTRATE 4-Terpineol Plus. It retails on the Yesstyle website for $41.85 CAD and comes with 30ml of product. It is a skin-calming ampoule that targets breakouts as well as reduces inflammation in the skin. It has an ingredient called Lactoferrin which is supposed to neutralize the presence of P. Acnes Bacteria, which, if you don't know, is one of the leading causes of acne on your skin.
This has got to be my favourite of all the products I’ve tried. It is super lightweight and smells of Tea Tree oil. From the ingredient lists, the concentration of the essential oil is very low on the list, and that is precisely the best way to use the ingredient. I can truly tell RNW really took its time selecting the proper ingredients, concentrations and formulations. I found that my acne subsided really quickly, and my hormonal acne uncharacteristically healed in record time, leaving no redness to the skin and no irritation.
Lastly, we have the RNW DER. ESTHE Cica Source Sheet Mask Set. It retails on the Yesstyle website for $58.35 CAD and comes with 10 sheets. This is an anti-inflammatory mask that is supposed to soothe irritation, control oil production, and brightens the skin. And it also contains antiseptic properties that are supposed to speed up the healing time of any active blemishes on the skin.
I found the mask very soothing to the skin. It is lightly fragranced of very subtle herbs which I find very appealing. As I mentioned before, this is to be used before the toner. I waited a few days to use this product because I didn’t want to try everything all at once. When I did add it into my routine, I found myself not feeling as though I needed a moisturizer afterward because my skin was so hydrated. I did apply one anyway just to lock in the hydration, but that is exactly how I like my skin to feel.
Overall
Before trying these products, I did to a patch test two days prior to ensure I wouldn’t have any adverse reactions. While I did purge the first day using these products - I experienced a few whiteheads - but no actual acne and they quickly went away after exfoliating with a BHA.
The brand actually features a really extensive line of products so there is something for everyone to try. Whether your focus is on acne, the overall health of your skin, or anti-aging efforts, there is going to be a product for you.
They also have a few different types of serums, toner/emulsion sets, face mask, a water-base face wash, an eye cream, and both day and night creams. Even a neck cream to help with wrinkle prevention and firmness. A few different sheet masks to try.
I really enjoy the simplicity of the products, the minimalistic packaging, and of course the attention to detail in the ingredients and the formulations. They sent me a little package with all the ingredients listed as well so I could really dive in to look at what they had. They also have a comprehensive breakdown on their Instagram that shows which products you should use for your skin type/concern and the ordering because that is really important. This is a line that I can recommend to anyone who wants quality products that are simple yet effective and at a mid-range price.
