The biggest difference between physical and chemical sunscreens, at least texture-wise, is that physical sunscreens don’t have the same water content, and hydration content that chemical sunscreens do. This water content difference is what allows allows chemical sunscreen to finish lightly on the skin.

Change the way you prep your skin for sunscreen!

For chemical sunscreen , you don’t really need to use a dedicated moisturizer at all before applying. But for physical sunscreens, you want to increase your hydration. Using a toner, and patting it into your skin, at least three times will hydrate your skin to a point where it’s visibly plumbed, and hydrated. When you put on your physical sunscreen, you’re not going to get as much white cast, you’re not going to get pilling on your skin. This is will give you supple skin, with a light, even physical SPF application.

If you find you need something a little extra, just go ahead and apply a gel moisturizer.
