Try Using POWDER As Your Only Foundation

In a world where looking flawless is a full time job, where countless instas, snaps and stories have you doing the MOSTEST to wake up like this,  it is so refreshing that the natural look is finally in again.

GONE are the days when looking matte to perfection was a requirement and if you couldn't bake a cake with the amount of foundation on your face then you weren't doing it right (well, that's probably pushing it a bit - but hey - the sentiment is still there!).

As of 2015, the natural look started to creep its way back to the beauty world. Now, a simple youtube search will give you thousands of "No Makeup Makeup Looks" to choose from.

LATELY, I've found it much more appealing to go as natural and bare face as possible (now that might be because I wake up so early in the morning for work that I don't have that kind of Kardashian time to sit in the kitchen for 2 hours while a professional makeup artist slays my face) but that's just details.

Back to what I was saying... I have recently found a new love for powder foundation. I remember this being the first type of makeup product I ever got my hands on when I stepped into the beauty world and it has truly become an under-used product in my collection over the years. But this gem has definitely found a new place in my heart.

Here's a crazy thought, why not use powder foundation alone? No liquid foundation, no correction just powder!

Don't get me wrong, I love my NARS, Makeup Forever, and Giorgio Armani foundations but for everyday, it can sometimes feel like a bit too much because its easy to apply heavy-handed. I have grown more accustomed to wearing less foundation and I have noticed quite a few things:

1. Bye bye oil.

I have combination-oily skin so to say my face looks like a grease ball at the end of the day is an understatement. Whenever I wear foundation, regardless of how much primer or setting powder or setting spray, no matter how matte and long wearing the foundation is I always get oily as soon as I hit the 6-7 hour mark. While it might sound strange, since wearing powder, I have not had such a huge issues keeping my oily T-Zone under control.

Tip: dabbing the powder onto the face builds coverage and hides any discolouration or dark spots!

2. Doesn't Clog Your Pores.

This one goes out - especially - to all you ladies who love to wear makeup to bed (my best friend does this all the time!) One thing I can say about liquid foundation, especially the ones on the market today, is that they are super long-lasting. Which is great, but when its comes to taking it off, it requires a bit more elbow grease to get the job done properly. That is because of the nature of these thicker, more pigmented, long-wear formulas, they are unfortunately designed to clog your pores. Powder foundation on the other hand, is a lot thinner and lighter. It is mattefying and gives just the right amount of coverage that still lets your true skin shine through. If that's not enough, I have also noticed less breakouts on my skin because powder foundation does not have as much chemicals as its liquid cousin.

3. Easy to use

There is nothing worse than a less than perfect liquid foundation application. You know what I'm talking about, the one that separates around the nose, sinks into eye crevasses, stops right at your jawline for some reason or just plain out could have used that extra 2 minutes it would have taken to make sure it was blended out properly. With powder foundation, a lot of these problems seem to magically disappear. My everyday makeup routine use to take me at least 25 minutes every morning, now I get my face done under 10!  And while that is a much better bench mark than it used to be (trust me, it was bad) I would still like to have more sleep in the morning than have a beat-for-the-gods face. Powder doesn't require the amount of skill and technique that liquid foundation does so it is an easy choice for ladies and gents that have busy schedules and need to get out of the door.

POWDER FOUNDATION gives you a even skin-tone while letting your natural skin shine through. It doesn't clog your pores and lets your skin breathe. Moisturize your face will a hydrating facial lotion, add some highlight to the highest point of your cheekbones and let everybody know, you woke up like this.
