5 Ways to Save Money on Skin Care

5 Ways to Save Money on Skin Care

To any beauty lover, our beauty products are some of our most prized possessions. We often spend a lot of time researching the latest beauty ingredients, and sometimes a lot of money on the products that promise to do many things for our skin. It would be a shame to let even a drop of that goodness go to waste.

Here are 5 ways to help you save money and make sure you're getting the most out of your beauty regime.

1. DOUBLE CLEANSE

The best tip I can give you (particularly if you wear makeup on a daily basis) is to double cleanse your skin. This can be done with an oil cleanser, micellar water or a cleansing balm to break down the makeup products and help it melt into your hands. You can rinse this off with warm water or even a damp warm towel. This will ensure that the makeup is removed first, and allow you to actually cleanse the skin with your face wash. More than that, it will save you from having to use multiple makeup remover wipes that can be costly.

2. WHEN TONING, FORGET THE COTTON BALL

Toner water has evolved over the years to do more than simply balance the pH level of the skin. It is hydrating, it can exfoliate and provide the skin with many other benefits. With all this goodness packed in a simple step, the last thing you'd want to do is waste even a drop of this magic water. When toning the skin, steer clear of cotton balls. By nature, cotton balls soak up a lot of the product more than it deposits on your face. And truthfully, you really don't need a lot of toner for it to work. Swap your cotton ball for a thin cotton pad as it will not soak up nearly as much of the product, effectively making it last longer.

*tip: try patting toner onto the skin using your hands to press the hydration in, maximize the effectiveness, and use zero waste!

3. MAKE USE OF YOUR SHEET MASKS

As a KDrama fanatic, I've been obsessing Korean Skin care long before it hit mainstream western media. One thing that I find really essential to their skin routine's are Sheet Masks. If you haven't been living under a rock you would notice the plethora of sheets available on the market.  Some beauty enthusiasts use it 2-3 times a week or more. At sometimes 6$ a piece, this super effective hydrator can get pretty pricey. These masks are marketed as single use, but there are ways to get more use out of your sheet masks. Rather than simply using it on your face and peeling it off, turn it inside out and lay it over your neck once you're done to benefit from the goodness of the serum. This will definitely save you more money.

4. 2 -IN-1 PRODUCTS

Multi use products make for great time savers as well as they can save you a ton of money. Instead of buying a whole bunch of products that often go unfinished before they expire (and yes beauty products have an expiration date!) simply keep track of one. It will speed up your skin care routine and save you a lot of money in the long run.

5. STORE YOUR PRODUCTS PROPERLY

As mentioned above, skin care products have expiration dates and based on how you store them (and make use of them) we can prolong or shorten their shelf lifespan. Store cosmetics in a cool dry place to prevent bacteria growth. This also means washing your hands before using any products on your face because our fingers hold tons of bacteria that can contaminate the products we use. Taking care of your products will ensure they don't go bad, and you can keep them a bit longer.
