3 Big Myths About Exercise

I love learning things about my health and myths and all sorts of other information. This Summer, everyone knows one of my goals are to get myself in shape. Not simply to lose weight but to get toned. Today we are debunking 3 Myths about Exercise.

Myth 1: The more you sweat the more you lose!

It really doesn't matter how much you sweat. Perspiratory glands are not tied to how many calories you burn. If it was, then sitting in a sauna would make you as thin as a twig and we all know I'd be in there 24/7. It does add to it in some ways but the pounds you shed depends highly on other contributing factors.

Myth 2: Stretching before working out warms up your muscles.

Now I always thought this was true. I mean it makes sense right. Wrong. You should be stretching after your warm up. If your muscles are not warmed up then you can possibly pull a muscle. Think of it as stretching cold clay and stretching warmed clay. Do your warm up for 5-10 minutes then do your stretching.

Myth 3: Sit-Ups are the key to Rock Hard Abs

Now this isn't really a myth but most people don't see any improvement in their abdomen section when they are trying to lose that belly fat and get rock hard abs. Usually people give up when they don't see any improvements. What is really happening is that you are building those strong muscles behind your belly fat. Your abs could be very well sculpted, and flat but because you have that lingering fat sitting on top of it, your abs are hidden. Make sure you do exercises to burn the fat first and/or while you're working on your core.

These are only a few things that came to mind, but I do encourage you guys to change the channel from the reality TV that you watch ( from a fellow reality-tv-junky) and watch something informative that can improve your quality of life. I do want to iterate that I am not a professional but these are this is the information I gathered from my research on sites you can find online. Always remember to fact check everything you see online and consult a professional for advice catered to your body.

My advice: get off the couch, go outside and put some exercise into your busy schedule.

xoxo
